Greenhill & Drumpark Primary Progress

The development of the old Coatbridge High school to form the new Greenhill and Drumpark Primary Schools is nearing completion and is due to open in August 2012.

The project is part of North Lanarkshire Councils Schools and Centres 21 framework. Graham Construction are the Main Contractor for the development with CRGP Ltd providing Architectural and Interior Design services.

The project is a balance of old and new; the existing grade ‘C’ listed building has been carefully renovated to provide a modern and comfortable teaching environment that retains the architectural character and style of the building. This approach is most evident in the Existing Atrium pictured below, where the ornate cornicing, exposed timber queen post trusses and original balustrade have been carefully restored. A playful colour palette coupled with a new double glazed rooflight ensure the space is bright and fun for the Children.

Modern interventions sympathetic to the style and character of the original building have been carefully inserted to create exciting and dynamic spaces that compliment the scale and volume of their surroundings.

These include a new covered courtyard dining and physical education space with a lightweight ETFE roof and glazed wall, a new pool which rises from one of the old Gymnasiums and is topped with a coloured polycarbonate box and a large new build extension, clad with black Trespa panels which provides a dynamic frontage and welcoming entrance to the school.

Greenhill and Drumpark is one of three schools CRGP and Graham are working together on. Calderbridge Primary School was recently handed over to North Lanarkshire Council and Coltness High School is due for handover in the summer of 2012.
