Lorraine Achieves her Ultimate Goal

Being a forward-thinking, imaginative and creative company, architects, building and quantity surveyors all enjoy working on a variety of diverse projects at CRGP. Our staff has expertise in education, ecclesiastical, insurance reinstatement, private and public sector projects as well as involvement in nationally important developments such as the SLAM initiative.

Experience, is of course vital to the meaningful development of our staff as is career progression. The attainment of professional credentials is encouraged and nurtured and we are delighted that Lorraine Martin of our building surveyors’ team has just qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor.

Lorraine started with CRGP some six years ago when she was employed as an architectural technician but through the company’s quality system and annual review, she was supported in her wish to attend Glasgow’s Caledonian University. It was there that she commenced a building surveying course on a part-time basis that culminated in her achieving a First Class Honours degree in Building Surveying in 2006.

In the past two years, Lorraine has become a significant member of staff, dealing capably with the many aspects of our surveyors’ work. She has been involved in leading projects such as at North Lanarkshire Council where she dealt with condition surveys and measured surveys on many of the council’s properties. Her work involved the preparation of five-year forward maintenance plans as well as the project management of a window replacement programme for residential properties.

Lorraine has also been involved with measured surveys for East Ayrshire Schools and the preparation and submission of building warrant and planning applications for the Glasgow Housing Association in its overcladding and re-roofing refurbishment works.

Other areas in which she has been engaged include quinquennial inspections for the Church of Scotland and roof inspections of tenements for Glasgow City Council. Recently, Lorraine’s focus has been on the design and construction of internal alterations and extensions to the Cardiology Outpatients’ Department and Medical Imaging Department at Ayr Hospital. She was also connected with the conversion of an ambulance garage into offices at Ayrshire Central Hospital.

“During the past two years,” says Lorraine, “I was required to keep a diary of projects in which I have been involved before I can become fully qualified. This is necessary as it is a major component of the RICS professional assessment interview and leads to the Assessment of Professional Competence, which is every surveyors’ ultimate goal.
“I love the job that I do and I am very fortunate to be with CRGP where I have been able to benefit from the extent and diversity of the projects the company does.”
